Weekly Update - 3rd Week of January - Choosing Colors

For inspiration for my wood elf team I scanned the interwebs.  I saw a lot of green and yellow, green and blue, and green and brown teams out there.  I didn't care for them.  I saw some green and red schemes that attracted me more but they still weren't right.  Then I remembered a video Les Bursley at Awesome Paint Job did a while ago and decided to watch it again.  It doesn't feature Blood Bowl but I liked the scheme.  He went with a reddish brown, orange, a greenish khaki, and gold metallic.  I decided to go with a variation of these colors, sort of a fall theme.

I often work up a drawing to out color schemes and this was no exception:

So I put this together and did a quick and dirty test figure:

I didn't like it.  I went back to the video and saw my colors were off.  So here is another markup:

So I gave that one a shot, used same model since it was just increasing contrast:

Better and truer to the scheme I wanted.  I brightened the orange and darkened the pajama brown.  I also gave the cloth a greenish tint.  Little pop of bright from the feather too.

By next week I'd like to have the team done.  Hopefully, I can find time for a couple hour block to hammer a big chunk of it out with the airbrush.  I decided to paint the pajamas with that to speed it up, if I can.

Weekly Update - 2nd Week of January - Zenithal Priming

I know this can be done with a rattle can and I've tried it that way before.  But for some reason the air brush made me think of it again.

I have a bunch of third edition GW Wood Elf blood bowl players so I thought I'd give it a try on them.  I primed them with black in the air brush.  I sprayed them and thought I was done.  Then one tipped over.  The went from black to silver in an instant.  I'm not sure why I didn't think about it earlier but spray from the top obviously wont get on the bottom.  I went back over them to make sure the underside was covered.

Single Fig

My phone crapped out on me last week so my search to find the correct way to photograph these miniatures is starting all over.

Here is the grey and white part:

Things I learned:
1.  Don't thin too much.  Finding the happy medium will come in time.
2.  Hold the trigger steady, let the pressure gauge do the work.  I did better with the grey and white.
3.  Tip the models to get all sides for dark color
4.  Cleaning the air brush is tough but I'm getting more confident.

Initech Gangsters - For Now

This team has to play in a tournament this weekend.  Due to not giving myself enough time, a series of headaches (what's new), and other things popping up, I don't have them nearly done.  I do have them done enough to play.  Some players on the team are pretty comparable to their movie counter parts and some don't have any distinguishing features.  They remain on their square bases.  The round bases I'm making for them give them much more "flair".  Also Lumbergh will have a stand in for this tourney.

Here they are now:

Some of the characters you can see on the team are:

Lawrence in his construction vest and fu manchu - back row far left

Brian in his Chotchkie's uniform - back row far right

Bob Slydell, the tall Bob, with his white short sleeve shirt, suspenders, and mustache - front right
Bob Porter, short Bob, with his black suit coat

I didn't even get to their mouths.  Oh well they're playable.  More on them later.

Skinks!

Under World Cup 2017; Make Blood Bowl Great Again and KUBBL Season X1 were the impetus of getting this team going.  The team theme is the movie, Office Space.  My original intent was to make each player resemble their namesake.  However, I'm not good enough at modeling to make all that happen.  I did any bit to make them look interesting with paint only, no modeling.

Here is the first team member as they stand now:

The pic makes it difficult to see but he does have a painted of fu manchu.  He's not totally finished and will be transferred to a round more "themed" base in the future.  Unforetunarely, this wont be done in time for UWC 2017.

Inspiration

I will provide a more proper introduction when the team is finished.

Little More Prep for the Winter

Here are some extra things that really don't take any building, but need to be done.

Troll for Chaos Pact team I'm going to work on:

Impact! figure all Chaos Cup Participants got:

Great Pic

12 skinks and left arms prepped for priming:

Couple Judicators hanging out
I will be moving these over to round bases after painting.  These will need to be done for an event in mid November.  Better get going.

Random BB Models done but not pictured

Base grit for all Stormcast models before priming.

Priming is done for now.  Time to get painting.  First up, my Initech Gangsters (skinks).  They need to be ready for the Underworld Cup in two weekends.

Introducing the Warpfire Wanderers

Phew!

I wasn’t sure the team would be finished in time.  As with most that are in this tournament, this will be a work in progress.  Things never turn out in real life the way I see them in my head, but all in all, I’m happy with their current states.  Here are the players and staff:

#1 – Snatchit Quikk

#2 – Rattagat Bruxt

#3 – Skritter the Leaper

#4 – Furrut Ringtail

#5 – Morb Weazle

#6 – Kreet Funglefoot

#7 – Hrut Hornspike

#8 – Rutch Snaketail

#9 – Rosvin Ratz

#10 – ‘Hideous’ Hakk Frottlespit

#11 – Vermin Valdech

#12 – Krunt Blackfoot

Assistant Coach – Reek Nosebiter

Apothecary -  Dr. Skitter Hisonvurj

Cheerleaders – (re-roll counters)

Now come the extras.  The locker room doubles as a team carrying case.  It’s a steel cake pan and therefore the magnets in the player, coach, and cheerleader bases hold them in place.  Dr. Hisonvurj has a work bench to make his warpstone concoctions.  The players gather near the benches to listen to Reek’s pregame speeches.

Locker room –

The dugout is a place to put all the markers, reserves, knock-outs, and casualties.  It’s supposed to look like a sewer system.  The “pipes” are random pvc things I had laying around.

Dugout – The Sewer

I used random bitz and bobs to give things more of a Skaven flare.  Thanks to Randroid for allowing me to use a lot of bitz he had.  The rat-ball is magnetized as well as the random mutation markers.

Rats, Flare, and Markers

This project has been a ton of fun!  I’ll continue to work on it for future events.  I plan on filling out the runners and rat ogre so I can play other tournaments with a full team.   Constant WIP.

Special Thanks to:
Xtreme for putting together and hosting this event.
Randroid for the use of the bitz and transportation.
Beaux for the models for the team.
Jeffro, Randroid, BCH, Jonny P, OTS, Valdric, Xtreme, and all the others on the Facebook Page for motivation and ideas.  This helped a ton.

Blood Bowl Legends Cup

In 2016 Games Workshop re-released Blood Bowl.  Since then they have released a couple supplements describing league play and adding a bit to the fluff of the game.  The supplements included descriptions of 8 classic teams.

Xtreme (Zlurpcast's Other Guy) created an event, that is going to be a series, around these legendary teams.  Eight coaches from around the Midwest have been assigned to each team and will be leading them onto the pitch.  As new teams are introduced they will be created but for this round there are eight.  Each coach is responsible for creating the players as described in the fluff, using proper colors and physical traits, and creating new and interesting fluff about the teams.

The teams are:
Bright Crusaders, Human
Orcland Raiders, Orc
Celestial Comets, Elf
Grudge Bearers, Dwarf
Greenboyz, Goblin
Warpfire Wanderers, Skaven
Chaos All Stars, Chaos Pact
Underworld Creepers, Underworld

I was assigned to the Warpfire Wanderers.  I've not coached a skaven team more than a couple times so I'm looking forward to that aspect.  The first step I'm taking is acquiring miniatures and prepping them to become the Wanderers.  The team has a bit of a warpstone issue.  They like the green and their bodies have the mutations to show for it.  I've chose to use mostly third edition skaven miniatures to make up my team.

Here are some of the metal I've chosen:

Linerats
A lot of the linerats need mutations.  The extra arms is a sculpt, I'll need to make the rest.  There are six linerats on the team so I won't need to use all of these minis.

Blitzers
The one with the claw will have red fur.  The other will have a snake-like tail.

Throwers
The miniature without the big hand is supposed to be fur-less and covered in sores, should be fun.

Gutter Runners
There are only two gutter runners on the team but one has very long legs.  I'm trying to decide how I can use the one in the middle (with vll) to make a gutter runner.  Both runners will get weeping daggers.

Extras
Some of these may become sideline figs and some may just be inspirations.  The rat that looks mostly painted has been in break fluid for a total of 72 hours and the paint still won't come off.  I don't know what was used on that model.

Other Plans, these haven't been fully fleshed out:
Cheerleaders - Comixininos pieces, mod some unused linerats
Apoth - Comixininos
Counters - giant rats, Warpstone thingies
3D Dugout - Sewer Themed
Team bus
Locker room/Carrying case - Sewer Themed

The other coaches are all putting their stuff together and are coming up with great and inspiring ideas. This event is gonna be a blast.

I Have a Blog?

I've been gone so long.  I've been doing stuff but so randomly I didn't feel the need or the worth to post.

I started to block out some base colors on my Impact! human figures so I figure I should update this with the colors used.  I've also decided to combine some teams I have so they can be used as a multitude of teams.  Since I'm doing that I feel it necessary to log my colors and such.

The main colors are green and brass with red and black accents.  For the "human" members of the team this means green pants and gloves, dark grey/black shirts and shoes, black or red leather belts, and brassy armor.
Here are so starts:

Some Base Colors Blocked In

Trollcast Casualty on the Left

Human Example

Green: VMC German Uniform Green
Dark Grey: VMC Black/Grey
Metal: VMC Brass
Red: Citadel Old Foundation Mechrite Red?
Black: VMC Black

I've been building my Necro/Unded Willy team also.  I intend to use the combination of models to make five teams,  Humans, Norse, Chaos Pact, Necro and Undead.

Some of the White Metal I'm Glueing
Mummies and Wights are built and primed.

I've been sporadically working on finishing up the Chaos Cup Legacy team from 2015.  It needs at least one more bull and one more chaos dwarf blocker.  I almost done with the bull and I'm bashing up a blocker from stuff I have lying around.

Chaos Dwarf
This was my MSPaint Sample

Pretty close I think.

Chaos Dwarf is a blitzer body from 3rd ed I think, a head and spike from some plastic Chaos Warriors:
