Introducing the Warpfire Wanderers

Phew!

I wasn’t sure the team would be finished in time.  As with most that are in this tournament, this will be a work in progress.  Things never turn out in real life the way I see them in my head, but all in all, I’m happy with their current states.  Here are the players and staff:

#1 – Snatchit Quikk

#2 – Rattagat Bruxt

#3 – Skritter the Leaper

#4 – Furrut Ringtail

#5 – Morb Weazle

#6 – Kreet Funglefoot

#7 – Hrut Hornspike

#8 – Rutch Snaketail

#9 – Rosvin Ratz

#10 – ‘Hideous’ Hakk Frottlespit

#11 – Vermin Valdech

#12 – Krunt Blackfoot

Assistant Coach – Reek Nosebiter

Apothecary -  Dr. Skitter Hisonvurj

Cheerleaders – (re-roll counters)

Now come the extras.  The locker room doubles as a team carrying case.  It’s a steel cake pan and therefore the magnets in the player, coach, and cheerleader bases hold them in place.  Dr. Hisonvurj has a work bench to make his warpstone concoctions.  The players gather near the benches to listen to Reek’s pregame speeches.

Locker room –

The dugout is a place to put all the markers, reserves, knock-outs, and casualties.  It’s supposed to look like a sewer system.  The “pipes” are random pvc things I had laying around.

Dugout – The Sewer

I used random bitz and bobs to give things more of a Skaven flare.  Thanks to Randroid for allowing me to use a lot of bitz he had.  The rat-ball is magnetized as well as the random mutation markers.

This project has been a ton of fun!  I’ll continue to work on it for future events.  I plan on filling out the runners and rat ogre so I can play other tournaments with a full team.   Constant WIP.

Special Thanks to:
Xtreme for putting together and hosting this event.
Randroid for the use of the bitz and transportation.
Beaux for the models for the team.
Jeffro, Randroid, BCH, Jonny P, OTS, Valdric, Xtreme, and all the others on the Facebook Page for motivation and ideas.  This helped a ton.

...And Now for Something Completely Different - Part 2

Time has been short recently but I've been able to get a little more done.  The problem is that things look so much better in my head than on the actual miniature.  I'm a little disheartened by this but motivated at the same time to get better.  Here are some added suckers to the tentacles.

...And Now for Something Completely Different - Part 1

Dog Bowl Five is fast approaching.  I've been working on my Stormcast and thought I needed a break or two.  We are organizing a Blood Bowl 7's Game in the Chaotic Realm to be played as a one-off for those getting to town early.  Randroid and I have been running the Dog Bowl since 2013 and we wanted to throw a wrinkle into this one.

We are painting up some old school metal Chaos Warrior models to represent the Chaos Gods.  Randroid is doing Tzeentch and Slaanesh.  I am doing two, Nurgle and Khorne.  These are old models so I had to strip mine first.

We decided to give the miniatures some additional flair so I decided to do some modifications.  The Khorne Warrior will get horns and the Nurgle Warrior will get some tentacles.

Here are some of the steps I took:

Nurgle added tentacles
The yellow protrusions coming out are the thin wires (stripped twist ties) used for support and shaping of the greenstuff.   I used a file to get a texture of sorts on the tentacles but I'm not sure it's enough.  I've seen a comb technique I may try.  We'll see.

Khorne added horns
The horns were from some extra bits I had laying around.  I also added a skull to the base, why not.  I need to do some clean-up on that line on the right horn.  I did some damage to the left horn to hopefully make it look "used".

I will be cleaning up the sculpting and such this is just to get a start on them.  The tentacles are going to get suction cups as well.

Dog Bowl IV - Coming in March

I'm not going to procrastinate this time.  Dog Bowl IV will be taking place at Marmalade Dog Gaming Convention on Saturday March 19, 2016.  I've started the planning process already.   This year I'll be more prepared.  Because this is a free tournament (players just pay the entrance fee to the con), there is a budget of zero dollars available.  This means the money for the tourney comes out of the tournament directors' pockets.  To helps us save money we build much of our awards.

I'm building a couple 3D dugouts that will be used as prizes for this year.  The other TO built one already (it looks great) and between that and the ones I make, its a good, inexpensive start.  Plus this way our awards are one of a kind and will be something different for the players.  I'm going to keep a log of my building them here.

I'll post more tournament info here as well as on The Spiked Ball and the Zlurpee Bowl Forums.
